Chapter Eleven

As suspected, the real fun was off the resort. Grace looked up things to do locally and found an abundance of tourist attractions, restaurants and bars, shopping, and activities they could engage in that didn’t involve having their noses in the air. When Roxanne texted to join them for brunch, she didn’t respond.

Ty wore a white t-shirt and boardshorts, and he looked like a bronzed god under the tropical sun. He had his hair in a haphazard ponytail, showing off the smooth muscled column of his neck and tempting her to bite it. She wore her bikini and a big floppy sun hat. His gaze often strayed to the valley between her tits, where she was slathered with sunscreen and glistened with sweat. She didn’t mind at all. His gaze was nothing like Carl’s.

They ate a marvelous breakfast on an airy patio overlooking the ocean, went on a sightseeing tour, drank rum from coconuts, and bought too many overpriced chintzy trinkets. They held hands and laughed and Ty pressed her into alcoves and shady secret spots to ravish her mouth. The sun was hot, the breeze humid, and the tension between them scorching.

She’d left the resort this morning feeling vulnerable and tender after her confession, but by afternoon she felt like she’d started a whole new life, and her spirits were higher than they’d been in years.

“I love the ocean.” Grace leaned on a stone wall, her arms folded on top of it. They stood on a bluff overlooking the beach, and the view was breathtaking.

Ty played with the string of her bikini top across her back. “Better than a swimming pool. We should go jump in it.”

“Would you believe I’ve never been in the ocean before?” She looked out across the glittering blue expanse. “I’ve been to the beach many times, but never actually got in. Brent took us to Cancun for our honeymoon.”

“You went to Cancun for your honeymoon and didn’t even get in the water?”

She shrugged. “It was a resort of course, and there were pools, like here. I was trying to be part of his world, do what everyone else did. I didn’t want to look like some classless tourist or mess my hair up. I was so worried about looking perfect.”

Ty shook his head. “That sounds so weird. People go to the ocean all the time to have fun, doesn’t matter how rich or poor they are. What’s so classless about it?”

“I don’t know.” She looked at her fingernails, gleaming and perfectly manicured. “I was so afraid to do anything wrong, anything out of place. I wanted to fit in so badly. I felt like I was being scrutinized constantly, even by him.”

She had never dared to confess such things before. This was almost as good as therapy—which she probably needed as well.

He slipped his hand down her back, then wrapped his arm around her waist. “You’re back in this world now. C’mon.” He tugged at her. She hesitated.

“Come on.” His plush lips curled into a smile.
